As an "At Large" member of the School Board, I will support the Commonwealth of Virginia's accreditation, quality, and learning standards because they comprise a part of the statutory and regulatory regimen under which the FCPS must operate. But I will advocate at least two improvements:
• Virginia should proceed with “re-benchmarking” to update the state formulae for funding K-12 education and reduce the under-funded state mandates placed on K-12 education.
• The School Board should request that the FCPS conduct a comprehensive assessment of these standards, prepare a draft report of their findings and recommendations for improvements, provide to adjacent school divisions an opportunity to review and comment on their draft report, and finalize that report for review, comment, approval, and publication by the School Board. This report should make the business case for proposed changes to Virginia's accreditation, quality, and learning standards.
