As an "At Large" member of the School Board, I will work with the FCPS staff in accordance with the generally accepted protocol articulated in the FCPS Proposed Budget--FY 2008, page 11:
• “[Assure] that the [FCPS] staff, under the authority of the Superintendent, has the freedom and authority to do its work without interference but also has the full accountability for the results of its decisions” and
• “[Accept] the challenge to perform [my] own duties with the same degree of excellence expected of the Superintendent and staff members.”
The FCPS staff provides an invaluable source of corporate knowledge and professional expertise that is essential to fulfilling the oversight, advocacy, and policy-making roles of the School Board. Because the staff works for the School Superintendent, all members of the School Board should follow generally accepted protocol in their relationships with the staff.
