As an “At Large” member of the School Board, I will review the results of current educational research on magnet schools and enrichment programs and consider those results in the context of the overall business case for magnet schools and enrichment programs.
I am inclined to support the concept of magnet schools and enrichment programs--provided that sufficient resources remain available for mainstream, alternative, and special education, and that implementation of magnet schools and enrichment programs does not result in a self-fulfilling prophecy about the potential of students who are not selected for an advanced program.
