As an "At Large" member of the School Board, I will work with the other members of the Board and with the School Superintendent to balance competing needs and achieve desired results that are in the overall best interest of our students, their parents, our employees, our taxpayers, and our other stakeholders in the FCPS. In doing so, I will operate in accordance with the generally accepted protocol articulated in the FCPS Proposed Budget--FY 2008 on page 20:

"The Board values a harmonious and positive relationship with the Superintendent characterized by excellent communication, mutual respect, personal ethics, and professional integrity and guidance."

The School Superintendent is the chief executive officer of a public enterprise with a $2.2 billion operating budget and a substantial capital budget--FCPS. Within the legal and regulatory framework set by federal laws and regulations, Virginia laws and regulations, and the policy guidance established by the School Board, the School Superintendent is accountable to the School Board for operating the FCPS. The School Superintendent is also responsible for continuously improving the quality (effectiveness), productivity (efficiency), and return on investment (ROI) in education of the FCPS, preparing the FCPS budget requirements and justifications, and supporting the School Board in its oversight, advocacy, and policy-making roles.
